Endoscopic Breast Augmentation Explained

Endoscopic breast augmentation, also known as endoscopic mammoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that involves using small and hidden incisions to place implants in the breasts to accentuate their size and overall volume. It is a less extensive procedure than the traditional augmentation techniques like periareolar and inframammary, and is widely known to provide scar-less results.

Endoscopic breast augmentation in Dubai requires a short recovery period and involves less pain. It is an appropriate option for those who are wary of undergoing highly invasive surgeries.

What is meant by “Endoscopic” Breast Augmentation?

During endoscopic augmentation, a small tube with a built-in camera is used to help Plastic Surgeons visualize their maneuverings and navigate through the tissues smoothly. This type of breast augmentation involves making small incisions under the armpits instead of around the breasts to enhance their size and shape without leaving obvious surgical scars.

Transaxillary vs. Transumbilical Augmentation

Transumbilical procedure refers to an augmentation technique during which Plastic Surgeons draw incisions in the navel region to access the breast tissue. Whereas, during the transaxillary technique, the incisions are made in the axilla (armpits) and endoscopes are used to guide the way.

How is Endoscopic Breast Augmentation Performed?

Plastic Surgeons begin by putting the patient under general anesthesia. A small but deep incision is made along the natural crease of the armpit. Plastic Surgeons then introduce the endoscope through the opening and make their way through the tissue to access the chest region.

Surgical instruments and the endoscope are used to form a breast pocket. The undermining of the tissue is done very carefully so as to protect the surrounding nerves and musculature against any unintended damage. The pockets can be created under or over the pectoralis major muscle to position breast implants.

Plastic Surgeons now wash the breast pockets to ensure germ growth does not infect the area later. Finally, implants are inserted in each pocket and the incisions are closed with sutures.

When to Go for Endoscopic Breast Augmentation?

You can consider getting endoscopic breast augmentation if:

  • You want to enhance the size of your breasts

  • You have asymmetrical breasts

  • Your breasts are sagging due to aging

  • You want to add volume to the upper quadrants

What to Expect?

Endoscopic breast augmentation gives the following benefits to patients:

  • Natural-looking results

  • No unsightly scars over the breasts

  • Faster recovery

  • Enhanced breast size

  • Less painful procedure

Post-operative Recovery

Following the surgery, a light dressing or compression bandage is applied over the armpits to reduce swelling and protect the area against infection and unwanted pressure. Plastic Surgeons advise their patients to take prescribed painkiller medications to reduce pain and discomfort.

Strenuous exercises and lifting heavy weights are also prohibited for the first 2 to 4 weeks as they put a strain on the treated area and may cause the incisions to open up. Doctors also advise avoiding alcohol consumption as it tends to affect the healing process.

Most patients are able to return to their routines within 7 to 10 days. The results become visible as soon as swelling and bruising subside.
